The country of the United Federation of America was founded during the Cold War. It was formed out of necessity when the long antagonism between the Americans and the Russians turned into a fiery war. The Soviet Coalition started to invade other countries and take over, so the United States and other countries made an alliance to work against the Soviets. This alliance was originally intended to be temporary to combat against the spread or the Soviets. As the Soviet Coalition grew the United States and their alliances grew.
THE UNITED FEDERATION OF AMERICA
The United Federation of America (also known as "The Federation", "America", or "UFA") is one of the two main superpowers in the world. It is made up of 33 nations, all united together under the same government. It is a federal republic and a representative democracy.
FORMATION
The temporary necessity of the alliance grew to a economical and governmental benefit over the long time of the standstill war. Negotiations went under way between the alliance to find an agreement to merge into one entity. After a few years of working together closely and negotiating. By the year of 2005 the negotiations were final and the alliance joined to create the United Federation of America. This union was made so, hopefully, the superpower more effective against the ever growing Soviet Coalition.
AFTER THE WAR
The union proved to be not enough. After the long war, in 2014 a treaty was agreed upon, the treaty called for a mutual ceasefire. Neither side had gained any traction and both economies were on a major down-trend, so both sides had seen it in their mutual benefit to call it quits.
After the war had officially ended, the Federation decided it was in their best interest to continue their union. This began the rebirth period, wherein there was a time of rebuilding the economy and structure back to a better stance. In this time Americans would look back to before the times of war and attrition and rebuild based on the nostalgia of the 1920s. Much of design, building, and art in this time was based upon the art deco movement of the 1920s.
THE REVIVAL
During this period of rebuilding, the technology made during the war made leaps due to the necessity of it. During the time of the ceasefire, what was come to be known as the Revival Period of America, the sophisticated tech made during the war no longer had any use. So all the advanced technology was repurposed and made to serve uses in everyday life. This caused the quality of life to sky-rocket, because during the war, most of the money and technology was spent on the efforts of the war. Now with this assist from technology, people had more time and money to spend elsewhere.
With the boost to the economy, the attitudes of the people started to change. There was an uprising in art and tech during this time, almost a new renaissance in a sense. This was almost like a reset button, people wanted to forget about the war, so they looked to the future, but also looked nostalgically before the war. This view impacted the look of art, architecture, design, and the culture.
This was a time of rebuilding, the war ravished the infrastructure and battles damaged some cities around the Federation. There was major damage in the US region of the Federation to specifically New York, Washington D.C., and Los Angeles during some major battles in the war. Other regions/nations in the Federation were majorly damaged as well, including London, Paris, Tokyo, and more. In America’s Revival, the nation of the U.S. remained in Washington D.C., but it was decided that the Federation needed a capital, so the capital was determined that in the place of the somewhat ruined New York, there would be a rebuilt capital city. It was renamed Neo York City, Neo York, the revived metropolis’ second and new life.
THE PRESENT
It took eras to rebuild back to a prosperous state, all of the Federation helped each other back onto their feet. The union proved to be beneficial to all involved and may have been the only thing that saved many from a total collapse. The many nations of the Federation developed separately, but still connected to the union as large. So each nation still has a unique feel and culture, but is still related with the alliance.
The present world is mostly peaceful, though the Federation and the Soviets are still in a state of tension that looms. Spies aren’t uncommon from either side, but is mostly seen just antagonistic actions, rather than the signs of another war. The Federation is now a futuristic landscape of megacities, interspersed with small towns and cities, large farmlands, and forests. The style of today hearkens back to the look of the roaring 20s, but in the deep future with advanced technology.
