BIO-ENGINEERED

Some humans are engineered at birth to excel past the average humans, for various reasons. They are often just called “Bios” or “Altereds” rather than bio-engineered humans. These humans were originally a part of tests to create a superior soldier for any possible wars or conflicts. Now these experiments are put to use more for aesthetic features like eye color, hair color, and the like. But some are still bio-engineered to usually be either larger, stronger, brute-like humans, or a weaker, athletic, higher-level intelligence humans. These specific engineered humans are often called “Brawns” and “Brains” respectively.

Racial Traits

Size and Type

Bio-Engineered are Medium humanoids with the human subtype.

Brawn Traits

Armor Savant

Brawn bio-engineered use armor in a way that complements their uniquely sturdy physiology. When wearing armor, they gain a +1 racial bonus to AC. When they’re wearing heavy armor, their armor check penalty is 1 less severe than normal.

Intimidating Presence

By nature of their sheer size and physicality, Brawn bio-engineered tend to intimidate others whether they wish to or not. Some Brawns learn how to put this fact to frighten and unnerve their enemies. Brawns with this alternate racial trait use Strength instead of Charisma as their key ability for Intimidation skill checks, and Intimidate is always a class skill for them. In addition, when they successfully use Intimidate to demoralize a target, the creature is shaken for an additional round.

Low-Light Vision

Brawn bio-engineered can see in dim light as if it were normal light.

Die Hard

Few creatures can boast the sheer stubborn determination of Brawn bio-engineered, even when it comes to death and dying. If a Brawn with this racial trait falls to 0 hit points and has no Resolve Points remaining, he clings to life for a number of rounds equal to his Constitution modifier (minimum of 1) before finally dying.

Brains Traits

Knowledgeable

The thirst for knowledge often drives Brains bio-engineered to learn as much as possible about the outside world. Those with this trait treat Culture, Life Science, and Physical Science as class skills. If the character already receives one or both these as class skills for their chosen 1st level class, they instead gain a +1 bonus on that skill.

Low-Light Vision

Brains bio-engineered can see in dim light as if it were normal light.

Snap Innovation

Once per day, a Brains bio-engineered can treat their character level as if it were 4 higher for the purposes of using any level-based class feature (such as a mechanic’s energy shield trick or an operative’s field treatment exploit). This trait does not give Brains early access to level-based powers; it only affects powers they could already use without this trait. Regardless of the ability that is boosted, the effect will only last for one round.

Savvy

Brains bio-engineered receive a +2 racial bonus to Engineering, Computers, and Diplomacy checks.

Physical Description

Bio-Engineered can vary widely in looks depending on their enhancements. They all look very similar to humans, just with small differences. The sub-types of bio-engineered like the Brawn and Brains can even look vastly different based on their level of enhancements. Generally speaking Brawns look like unnaturally hulking, muscular humans, and often much taller than regular humans; Brains look somewhat smaller, more delicate, and somewhat better-looking with sharper facial features than average humans. Most bio-engineered don’t look overtly different and mix in with a crowd, but if you were close enough attention you would be able to tell they were different enough to your average human.
